HOW VILLA LALA STARTED

The tale of Villa Lala began in 1949, marking a significant chapter in my family’s journey from El Tuito to Puerto Vallarta via Boca de Tomatlán. This transition was driven by the quest for a full primary education, unlike the limited schooling available in El Tuito. Four years after settling in Vallarta, I was born, already intertwined with the paths between these locations. My father’s livelihood necessitated frequent travels between Vallarta and El Tuito via Boca de Tomatlán. As a child since 1955, I navigated this route, which would later host only one house, and became a second home where my father held ejidatario rights. The land was fruitful with banana cultivation and provided a simple palapa refuge. Fishing and fending off mosquitoes were integral parts of my childhood there. The arduous four-hour rowing journey from Vallarta to Boca deepened my connection with this enchanting locale. Following my father, Enrique Perez Castillón’s passing, the ejidatario rights passed to my mother, and in 1981, she was bequeathed the land that Villa Lala now graces. Fresh from university, I was bestowed this land, and thus named the villa in my mother Eduarda Gonzalez de Perez’s honor.Commencing my design and construction career at Playa de las Animas, Boca de Tomatlán remained pivotal as I ferried materials and oversaw progress. I began by expanding the land to accommodate a road, given the rugged terrain.By 1987, I was constructing what was intended to be my family home with my wife, Jenny Orr, and sons, John Salvador and Benjamin Rene. We made it our abode in 1996, subsequently completing the surrounding outdoor projects, including a pool and access to the sea.Post-divorce and with my children’s coming of age, Villa Lala transformed. The question arose—what to do with such an expansive estate alone? Driven by my zeal for creation, I opened it to the public in 2015, embarking on a new venture without full knowledge of its scope but filled with a vision of crafting magnificent, love-infused landscapes. The “Love Nests” among the trees and jungle debuted in September 2018, with five additional nests unveiled on March 17, 2023. Villa Lala stands as a legacy—a narrative of a family’s migration, an architect’s ambition, and a haven for those seeking romance and luxury within nature’s embrace.

In Boca de Tomatlán, Villa Lala rises, a creation that encapsulates the architectural ingenuity and passionate soul of its founder, Cachi Pérez. This place, more than just a luxury destination and a unique experience of love and intimacy, is a testament to a life dedicated to architecture, love for nature, and commitment to sustainability. Through this narrative, it seeks to capture not only the history of Villa Lala but also the essence of a project infused with the heart, passion, and vision of its creator.

Villa Lala was born from Cachi’s dream, who transformed inherited land into a sanctuary of luxury and love without altering nature, reflecting his philosophy of conservation and environmental harmony in every corner of the place. Following personal changes, Cachi evolved his home into Villa Lala, starting with four suites and expanding in response to growing demand to create the innovative suites with private pools, earning him international recognition and architectural awards. Despite challenges, including a personal battle with cancer, Villa Lala became more than an architectural project; it turned into a vibrant community and a testament to Cachi’s passion for a legacy of love, beauty, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and people, offering each guest the chance to be part of a truly unique and emotional experience.

A rebirth of Villa Lala occurred after Hurricane Lidia in October 2024, facing almost total losses of the suite interiors, more than 30 majestic trees felled, and collapses on Federal Highway 200 preventing staff access. A significant part of the Boca de Tomatlán community was called upon to work on the cleanup and reconstruction of Villa Lala. Architect Cachi Perez, as a leader, took just 20 days to reorganize the property because, in addition to being his only personal investment, it supports the livelihood of more than 20 families working there; and then Villa Lala gained more international recognition thanks to the exposure from a couple of influencers, achieving full bookings for several months. All the hard work, passion, leadership, being an unstoppable being, was reflected in this disaster, as Cachi Perez took it as a challenge and an opportunity to rebuild.

Villa Lala is an exclusive refuge, meticulously designed to be the perfect stage for love and reconnection. In this oasis of tranquility, every detail, from the architecture to personalized services, has been carefully conceived to foster intimate and memorable moments for couples.
